He's giving it lip service now but if the Republicans cave and give him more taxes with out serious cuts in spending until "LATER" or NEXT YEAR", you'll never hear Simpson-Bowles again and the cuts will never happen.

As for Greece and Spain; just plain socialist excess spending of money to keep the peace that wasn't theirs, in other words, borrowed money.

So, the banks made(?) the governments borrow that money? Yea, and charged them interest? Yea, then they loaned out more money to private entities against inflated land and building prices. So, when the real estate markets went down the banks became insolvent and cried "crisis."
(Did the banks bundle cheap "paper" in those countries there too and then sell them to other banks as approved investments? They did here.)

Oh, but in Spain, the banks can still carry their loans at the inflated prices thus hiding insolvency! Oh no! So now there is a banking crisis that comes eventually to light because the governments can't pay back the money they borrowed and neither can the property owners! Simplified ....but true despite what the socialist politicians tell you.

In France, they like to blame the bankers (a code word for Jews). What are the code words in Spain and in Greece? Give me a break. You may know your religion but it all depends on who you read in Spain, Greece, and France.
